Drug Testing Rules

  • All Pros earning a monetary reward are urine tested
  • All Pro Qualifying amateurs are urine tested
  • A random sample set of Amateurs and Pros at each event separate from the criteria listed above will also be urine tested
  • All athletes (Pro and Amateur) may be subject to out-of-competition urine testing to ensure adherence to the drug policy.

Amateur Classes & Rules

  • Teen/Collegiate – Ages 14-22 (Non-Pro Qualifying)
  • Masters Ages 35+ (Pro Qualifying)
  • Novice  – open to competitors of any age, but not to competitors who have won their class in Novice or placed Top 3 in an Open division contest. (Non-Pro Qualifying)
  • Open – open to competitors of any age or experience level. (Pro Qualifying)

Crossovers

  • Athletes may cross over from one type of class to another, such as Open and Masters; Open and Novice; or between divisions within a class such as Bikini & Figure.
  • Competitors ARE NOT PERMITTED to crossover between Pro and Open.

Obtaining a Pro Card

  • To win a pro card, there must be a minimum of 5 total athletes in the division. This may include height or weight classes in that division.
    • For Men’s Bodybuilding and Women’s Physique there must be at least 3 athletes.
    • If there is more than one class in the division, you must win the overall. 
  • If your division is split into classes that contain at least 5 athletes, each class winner (of at least 5 athletes) is eligible for a pro card.
    • If the division is split, and one class does not have 5 athletes, that winner is NOT eligible for a pro card unless they win the overall. However, provisional pro status may be awarded.
  • Athletes must also have passed all drug testing requirements. 

Provisional Pro Status

  • A provisional pro status may be awarded in the event a division does not meet the required minimum number of athletes and the judges panel deems the winning athlete is capable of a competitive showing within future NFF pro events.
  • A provisional pro will be given up to 2 NFF seasons (which includes the current season) to solidify their pro status.
  • To solidify pro status, the provisional pro will be allowed to compete in a NFF pro division and must place in the top half of the division.
    • Example: 4 athletes in the division require the provisional pro to place in the top 2
    • Example: 6 athletes in the division require the provisional pro to place in the top 3
    • Example: 8 athletes in the division require the provisional pro to place in the top 4
  • If there is an odd number of athletes in the division, the minimum required placing is rounded down.
    • Example: 3 athletes in the division require the provisional pro to place 1st
    • Example: 5 athletes in the division require the provisional pro to place in the top 2
    • Example: 7 athletes in the division require the provisional pro to place in the top 3
  • If an athlete has not solidified their pro status within 2 NFF seasons, the athlete must requalify as an amateur.
  • Provisional pro status is not transferable to other organizations and must be solidified at an NFF pro event.
  • All drug testing requirements must have also been passed, and athletes are subject to in-season and off-season testing.

PRO ATHLETE REQUIREMENTS: Maintaining Your Pro-Status

Once an Athlete has been notified with a confirmation e-mail of passing the urine test that was administered at a sanctioned NFF Event, the Athlete must accept their Pro-Status by registering as an NFF Pro within 90 days from the received date of this e-mail.

Once the athlete is registered, the:  

  • NFF Pro must compete in an NFF show within 12 months
  • After first pro show, once every 24 months to maintain Pro-status
  • All NFF Pros must maintain their NFF Membership & 
  • Must keep the NFF pro membership active.
  • Pros may compete in any Pro class and are NOT permitted to compete in an Amateur division.
  • Pros are not permitted to crossover divisions at the same show.
      • Example: Pro Figure & Pro Women’s Physique is NOT permitted
